My Yorkshire: Richard Taylor, BGF

BGF is one of the most active investors in small and mid-sized businesses in the UK.

Richard Taylor joined BGF in July 2012 and leads the investment team in Leeds. He has 18 years’ experience in small company investing through previous roles at YFM, Octopus Private Equity and Sovereign Capital. He began his career at Deloitte where he qualified as a chartered accountant.

Where do you live/where are you from?
South Milford in North Yorkshire.  Originally from Morley, South Leeds, so some may say I’ve moved in the right direction.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why? 
York – Many happy university memories

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
Living in the countryside in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire? 
At the Pipe & Glass near Beverley

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
No need to wear a coat when it’s cold

Favourite piece of trivia about the region. 
When I was at University at York there were 365 pubs – one for every day of the year.  Sadly, I suspect this is no longer the case.

What/who is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire? 
Yorkshire County Cricket Club: the most successful cricket team in the country.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire? 
It’s located next to Lancashire!

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire? 
How understated it is!!
