Weekender: City centre office building launches bike scheme

A Leeds city centre office building is the first in the city to launch an innovative bike sharing scheme for its occupiers.

No.1 Leeds, the 122,303 sq ft grade A office building on Whitehall Road, is offering occupiers free use of bikes.

Once employees have downloaded the free app from APP-Bike, they are able to borrow or reserve bikes to include helmets and high visibility vests.

When finished they return the bike to the cycle store located at the rear of the office building. The bikes are secured via a lock on the rear wheel, which is operated via a QR Code on the bike that links with the app on all smart phones, giving occupiers the flexibility to secure bikes where ever they wish.

Occupiers within the office building include the Yorkshire Post, CreativeRace, Engie and Landmark, where a number of employees have already signed up to the scheme.

Property agents, Cushman & Wakefield and Knight Frank are joint agents at No.1 Leeds.

Ross Firth, associate at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “This is a great initiative and will undoubtedly encourage employees to use bikes in and around the city centre.

Sam Jamieson, senior surveyor at Knight Frank, added: “With the new cycle highway on Whitehall Road, occupiers can now cycle to Trinity to collect their lunch or indeed take themselves off for a cycle along the river. We are delighted to have teamed up with App-Bike to launch this excellent initiative and one which we expect to expand in the building over time.”
