My Yorkshire: Andy Kendall-Jones, Southerns Group chief executive

Andy Kendall-Jones is chief executive at Leeds-based Southerns Group.

Where do you live/where are you from?

I’m born and bred in Leeds and today live in Calverley

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Without question, Elland Road.  I am a devoted Leeds United supporter and watching my team at their home ground is my favourite place to be.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

To complete ‘The Three Peaks Challenge’.  I have already climbed each of these mountains separately but I’d like to have a go at attempting to climb all three within twelve hours.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

It has to be a meal at the Pipe and Glass in Beverley.  The restaurant serves the best food in the region in my opinion which is made even more enjoyable by the great setting and ambience.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

My accent! It seems to get stronger every year and if I meet someone not from the region I know they find it hard to understand me.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region?

Not many people know this but Yorkshire Amateur football club sold Elland Road to Leeds United FC for £250 back in 1920.

What/who is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Cricketer Freddie Trueman. The sheer grit and determination he showed throughout his career is really inspiring and of course he one of the greatest bowlers the sport has ever seen.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

My worst Yorkshire experience is undoubtedly the whole 2003-04 football season at Elland Road which ultimately saw LUFC relegated from the Premier League.  As a dedicated fan these were truly terrible days!

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

I don’t really think that anything to come out of Yorkshire is overrated – Yorkshire is the best county in the country!
