Work on McCabe family’s squash academy completes

A new squash and racquets academy in Scarborough, backed by the McCabe family, has completed.

Ahead of the original June completion date and despite extreme winter weather conditions, GMI Construction has handed over the project to Scarborough Rugby Club.

The new facility of four state-of-the-art glass backed courts, primarily funded by the McCabe Family Charitable Foundation, supported by the council and local businesses, now sees further work underway in a second phase which will include a cafe with seating area for spectators and improvements to the existing Baron’s gym facilities.

A ceremony marking the opening of the facility will take place in September, prior to which a team of squash enthusiasts and coaches will work with community groups and schools to start to introduce squash and racquetball to potential new players in the area, leading to the introduction of local tournaments and leagues to be played locally, regionally and nationally.

Come and try it sessions, free off-peak sessions aimed at all ages and abilities will also be offered as well as club social nights.
