Major logistics hub for online retailer set to open next month

Preparation is underway to start using a redundant site in Sheffield as a logistics hub for fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing.com, ahead of the contract starting next month.

Leeds-based Clipper Logistics announced in April that it had secured a major new contract with online retailer PrettyLittleThing.com, part of boohoo.com, to provide logistics from Sheffield.

It has taken over the 615,000 sq ft former Polestar site, which was last in use in 2016, creating 1,200 jobs for the region. Clipper Logistics has been working with the City Growth team at Sheffield City Council for the last year to secure the 10-year lease on the Sheffield 615 site on Shepcote Lane, Tinsley.

Yesterday, Clipper Logistics, Sheffield City Council and PrettyLittleThing.com were on site ahead of the contract beginning next month.

PrettyLittleThing.com is the fastest growing fashion on-line retailer in the country. In six years, the company has expanded massively and caters primarily for teenagers and the youth market, with plans to expand its online sales further into Europe and Australia.

The contract will will be a fast-moving fashion, shoe and accessories e-commerce logistics operation involving inbound deliveries from a variety of UK based and international suppliers over seven days a week.

Various forms of automation and mechanisation can be introduced over the next five years to facilitate the anticipated significant growth.

Steve Parkin, executive chairman of Clipper Logistics, said: “The new contract with Pretty Little Thing represents one of the Company’s most significant contract wins and is demonstrative of our ability to deliver cost-effective solutions for retailers of any scale. We are delighted to have been awarded this contract with one of the fastest-growing online retailers, and look forward to working with the PLT team over the years ahead.”
