Australian gym limbers up for new mill development

A family-owned fitness brand that was founded in Australia is set to open its first gym in Yorkshire this month having signed a 10-year lease on the ground floor of The Cotton Mill in Skipton.

Jetts has four gyms in the UK and 250 worldwide. The Skipton gym will be owned and run by franchisee and entrepreneur Josh White.

The deal on the 4,500 sq ft space means that the Belle Vue Mills development, which has seen a collection of former Mill buildings in the heart of Skipton transformed into a mix of residential homes and commercial space, is virtually now complete and occupied.

The Cotton Mill incorporates 39 loft-style apartments and was completed by property company Rushbond.

Around 75% of the Cotton Mill is now sold and the planned opening of Jetts has already been welcomed by the local community, with the business receiving more pre-registration enquiries than any other UK Jetts gyms to date.

White said: “We chose The Cotton Mill as it’s a fantastic building in a great location within this thriving and vibrant market town. The Jetts concept has really appealed to local people and we have had a phenomenal amount of interest in membership already. Our Skipton gym is the first of many we plan to bring to Yorkshire over the next few years, and we will be creating a number of new jobs.”

Richard Baker, from Rushbond, added: “Jetts is an ideal fit for The Cotton Mill. The ground floor space is easily accessible and the perfect layout for a quality gym offering. Josh is very passionate about the brand and his plans for the gym will give people in Skipton, and the Belle Vue Mills community, a fantastic new leisure facility within the beautiful former Mill buildings.”
