Weekender: Second Chow Down festival to be staged at Piece Hall

A second three-day bonanza of food, drink and fun is to be held at Halifax’s Piece Hall later this month.

The Chow Down festival will see independent food, ale and cocktails pop-ups staged as part of a food and drink festival at Halifax’s Grade I-listed Piece Hall.

Organised by Leeds Indie Food, the weekend will also feature live music and DJs. The first ever Chow Down took place in June and attracted some 30,000 visitors. The next weekend will be held on 20-22 July.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, CEO The Piece Hall Trust, said: “Chow Down has proved to be one of our busiest events so far and I’m enormously proud to have it exclusively at our venue for the summer. It was especially great to see the wider town thriving with the Halifax Food and Drink Festival and Square Chapel Arts Centre’s Beer and Gin Festival on at the same time. A real festival-feel brought to the whole town.”

Matt Long, New Citizens, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the reception to our first Chow Down event at the fantastic Piece Hall. It was great to see a culmination of everyone’s efforts come together and showcase the finest in street food, drink, music and craft in the beautiful surroundings in one of the UK’s most iconic locations. We’re really excited to be returning on the 20th July weekend for part 2 of Chow Down.”

The line-up will change monthly, but 25% will always aim to be vegan and veggie, ensuring that there’s always lots of foodie options, and something to suit everyone.

The food line-up for Chow Down’s second weekend (July 20th – 22nd) includes:
