My Yorkshire: Joe Chetcuti, director of Front

Joe Chetcuti – director of Front, the Sheffield based creative agency.

Where do you live/where are you from?
I’m originally from South Wales and I have a Maltese grandfather but I was brought up in Yorkshire. I now live in Netherdge, Sheffield, so you could say I have a somewhat mixed heritage.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
Robin Hoods Bay. I’ve spent many lovely times camping and fossil hunting with the kids there. Malham Cove comes a close second, followed by York.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?.
I’d like to have done the World Curry Festival in Bradford

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
It’s always tends to be the last one I had!  I’ve just been to the Ginseng Korean BBQ Restaurant in West One which was great fun. Also, the Turkish and Persian restaurants along London and Abbeydale roads are great for their simple, tasty, authentic and well cooked food.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
Comparing home to ‘that there London’ every time I travel south.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region?
Sheffield has the highest ratio of trees to people in Europe.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
Keith Lemon.

First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkshire folk)
As a newly arrived kid, finding loads of parks and open space in Sheffield.

What has been your worst experience, or what is the worst thing about Yorkshire?
There’s nowt wrong w’Yorkshire!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
Not much really. Being a bit closer to the coast would be nice. But – genuinely – Yorkshire has everything: cities, countryside, coast and culture. In Sheffield, we’ve even appropriated a big part of the Peak District so it’s pretty damn perfect.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

‘Yorkshire’ and ‘Overated’ are two words that should never appear in the same sentence.
