50 jobs to be created at new Energy Centre

Plans have been unveiled for a new Energy Centre on undeveloped land at the EP South Humber Bank (EP SHB) power station.

The new centre, to be known as the EP South Humber Bank Energy Centre, would be powered by Refuse Derived Fuel.

The Energy Centre would directly create around 50 new permanent jobs and represent an investment of around £300m within the area.

South Humber Bank power station was acquired by EP UK Investments (EPUKI) from Centrica in 2017.

More than 70 existing jobs were recently secured following the completion of a £53m investment programme to improve its efficiency and extend its operational life.

The existing power station would not be affected by the Energy Centre proposals.

EP SHB said that a planning application for the Energy Centre proposals will be submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council later this year.

James Crankshaw, Head of Engineering for EPUKI said: “The UK’s power generation mix is changing and there is a need for new power generation and energy recovery facilities.

“The Energy Centre proposals are designed to meet these needs and also create permanent local jobs.  We look forward to receiving the community’s views on our proposals through the project website or in person at our consultation events in September”.
