Weekender: Meadowhall sees footfall surge over summer period

As a result of the £60m transformation programme, Meadowhall reported a significant increase in footfall over the summer.

This footfall growth was led by a combination of experiential activities and an improved retail and leisure offer.

Meadowhall’s beach returned for the school holidays, complete with a double decker bus hosting a range of activities for children and a series of take-over days by the centre’s retailers.

The beach was visited by over 100,000 people, helping to drive a 3.2% increase in footfall during August.

Other performance highlights during the summer school holidays included a 50% increase in footfall over August Bank Holiday; footfall after 6pm was also up 20% in August; and catering sales increased by 6.7%.

Other events in Meadowhall’s annual calendar include a Christmas concert, which is viewed by over 15,000 people, fundraising for local charities, school holiday activities aimed at families, commercialisation events and experiences, such as the artisan food markets in Park Lane.
