Conversion of Victorian clock tower marks final phase of £88m development

A ten-year masterplan to redevelop a Victorian building in West Yorkshire is reaching its final stage of construction.

Work has now commenced at Chevin Park in Menston to convert the last remaining, and most recognisable building of the development, to offer 42 new apartments and townhouses.

Located on the site of the former High Royds Hospital, Chevin Park comprises a collection of properties. The final building to be transformed is home to the clock tower and former hospital ballroom, which sits at the centre of the 200-acre site.

Homes in The Clock Tower are currently priced from £249,950 to £389,950 and a small selection of one and two-bedroom apartments have been released for sale off plan.

The site was acquired by Avant Homes in 2006 and works to convert the many buildings began soon after.

Buildings have been restored to their former Victorian glory to create a range of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes including apartments, townhouses and bungalows.

Alison Taylor-Shaw, Avant Homes Yorkshire sales and marketing director, said: “The conversion of the iconic clock tower at Chevin Park marks a real milestone in this extensive redevelopment project.

“These will be the very last conversion properties to purchase and, once the Grade-II listed building has been carefully restored, combined superbly with the contemporary internal fittings, it will be an exceptional place to call home.”

In addition to the clock tower conversion, the original hospital ballroom will be restored and serve as a social and events space for residents.

Alongside the clock tower conversion, works are also underway to deliver a small collection of executive new build homes that will mark the last phase of development. These four and five-bedroom homes are priced from £449,950 to £744,950.

Chevin Park, which is located on the edge of Rombalds Moor, will also feature leisure facilities including a football pitch funded by the Football Association, Avant Homes and Leeds City Council.

The site already incorporates Crompark Cricket Club’s pitch and a new purpose built social club for the High Royds Residents Association.

Taylor-Shaw added: “There really isn’t anything else in Yorkshire that can offer original Victorian grandeur combined with the elegance of contemporary design quite like Chevin Park. We’re hugely excited to see the finished clock tower and are delighted to be in position to now offer these final homes to buyers.

“The vision for Chevin Park has always been to create a vibrant community village and this final phase of development takes us a step closer to achieving this. To live at Chevin Park means much more than owning a stylish new home, it’s a unique lifestyle opportunity very rarely offered elsewhere.”
