New tenants secured at Leeds mill complex

Four new tenants have been secured at Mabgate Mills in Leeds, taking the total number of businesses located at the former textile mill to over 30.

The Mills’ owner, MTD Coln Industrial, has spent a considerable sum refurbishing the 55,000 sq ft property since it was acquired in 2016 to provide an affordable, modern and attractive range of studio and office spaces.

Carter Towler surveyor Hazel Cooper said: “We are delighted with the growing level of interest in Mabgate Mills, the quality of the refurbishment and the flexible range of office space available is proving to be very popular with start-ups looking for incubator facilities as well as more established small and medium-sized businesses, particularly those involved in the creative sector. These latest deals now mean the mill is over 70% let which is very encouraging.

“The new Victoria Gate and Leeds City College developments have had a very positive impact on this part of the city and coupled with that, the excellent amenities such as the parking, local shops such as Aldi and Pure Gym make Mabgate Mills a very attractive and affordable business location.”

The new tenants include textile designer Laura Slater, children’s dance company Icon, Mosaic Church and SAA. In total these four companies have taken 5,500 sq ft. A further 9 incubator units ranging from 160 to 325 sq ft have also now been fully let on a short term flexible basis with provision of broadband services and shared break out space included.

There are still a number of offices available of varying sizes from 1,500 – 4,000 sq ft.

Siobhan Riley of Atkinson Associates said: “The Mill complex has been transformed by the current owners into a thriving community for successful small to medium-sized companies.  The significant investment has paid dividends with a regular take up of space.  A truly remarkable turnaround for this once tired looking Mill”.
