Construction firm appointed to £60m build-to-rent scheme

Construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine has secured the £60m Mustard Wharf build-to-rent housing project in Leeds, according to reports.

The 250-home project in the Holbeck area of the city is being developed by Legal & General, which bought the site from U+I last year.

L&G said at the time that it would start on site at Mustard Wharf in 2018, with practical completion set for early 2020.

It acquired the site from U+I in partnership with CTP in May 2017 after raising £1bn to invest in the build-to-rent sector. The Mustard Wharf development is the fifth UK city to which it is bringing the rental offer. It has planning for 250 homes as well as 8,640 sq ft of commercial and amenity space.

Walker Modular will provide all bathroom pods for the project, which is due for completion in 2020.

When Legal & General bougth the scheme, Dan Batterton, BTR Fund Manager at LGIM Real Assets, said: “In our view Mustard Wharf is the ideal location for a BTR scheme in Leeds.

“We are excited that we are going to create a new standard of rental accommodation and service in a thriving community.”
