Brewery invests £1.7m in transforming Victorian building into beer factory

Ossett Brewery has invested £1.7m in transforming a Grade-II listed Victorian tramshed into a new beer factory.

The Salt Beer Factory is located in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage village of Saltaire, near Bradford.

The brewery said that Salt is a micro-brewery which “aims to produce hop-forward beers and couple them with an interactive brewery experience.”

The 20-hectolitre beer factory comprises a taproom in the heart of the brewery, where customers can order Salt beers with the backdrop and theatre of the brewhouse around them.

The Salt Beer Factory also includes brewery tours, a stage for live events, DJ booth, viewing mezzanines, tank beer dispense, gift shop, wood-fired pizza oven, and private hire/conference facilities.

Work is underway for the expansion of the Salt brand through two craft-centred venues, named Craft Asylum.

The first bar is set to launch in the venue formerly known as, Candlebar in Granary Wharf, Leeds, on Friday 16 November.

The second Craft Asylum, at 26 East Parade, Leeds, just off Greek Street, will be opening on Friday 30th November.

Jamie Lawson, owner of Ossett Brewery, said: “The vision for Salt has been three years in the making; a concept that began with an idea to brew some beer at the back of the Hop in Saltaire has now evolved into something much greater than we could’ve ever imagined.

“The vision has now extended beyond the brewery as we aim to showcase the best in craft beers and gins, in a modern pub environment.”
