Plans submitted to transform former Banana Warehouse into new hotel

A planning application has been submitted for the transformation of the former Banana Warehouse in York.

Located at 36-44 Piccadilly, York, the site is set to be redeveloped into a four-storey hotel comprising 158 beds.

Buildings on the site include a range of one to two storey light industrial units, warehouses and showrooms.

The Banana Warehouse façade, with a painted rendered and brick frontage, is noted as a “building of merit” within the Conservation Area Appraisal. The scheme will retain this façade and integrate it with the new hotel.

The proposals have been submitted by hotel developer and operator Axcel Group, which altered the original plans following a public consultation.

A spokesperson said: “We believe this design responds well to the site, has adapted and developed as a result of consultations and provides an opportunity not only to provide a high quality 4-star hotel but to help play a part in the regeneration of the Piccadilly as well as the River Foss.”

Comprehensive Design Architects has been working with Axcel Group on the design of the the development.
