Plans approved for 290-bed city centre student accommodation scheme

Plans have been approved for a new 290-bed student accommodation development in Leeds city centre.

The scheme is set to be built to the north of the city centre on the former Leeds College of Building site on Millwright Street.

Coda Architecture designed the development, which was led through the planning process by Coda Planning.

Adam Murray, Coda Planning director, said: “We worked hard with the Leeds planners to ensure the scheme respected the surrounding urban context and the neighbouring buildings, whilst also providing high end student accommodation in a perfect location.

“The current building does not reflect the kind of buildings you’d expect in the city centre but this new development includes open space and increased accessibility to the surroundings for all the community, all in a sustainable location in close proximity to both the city’s universities.”

Kyle Emmerson of Coda Architecture added: “Our design reflects the local vernacular in terms of the materials used and brings another fresh contemporary building to this increasingly vibrant part of the city centre.

“We had to work through the constraints of the site, with the nearby beck and surrounding developments and we believe that we have designed something that really sets the standard in this location, which is a fast growing part of the city centre.”
