Championship football club to be put up for sale

The owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has told fans that he is putting the Championship club up for sale.

The Thai businessman bought the Owls in 2015 and The Owls are currently placed 18th in the league, with fans unhappy with manager Jos Luhukay.

At the fans’ forum held last night, he said he would put the club on the market. “I will put this club on the market. I believe many people want to buy,” Chansiri told the forum.

The Owls were placed under a transfer embargo between April and August this year after breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

According to the latest accounts filed on Companies House, Sheffield Wednesday reported pre-tax losses of £20.7m in the year to May 31 2017, a widening from the pre-tax losses of £9.6m it reported in the previous year. The club’s turnover remained largely the same, at £23m.

Chansiri has invested millions of pounds into the club, which he bought from Milan Mandaric.
