More than 240 jobs at risk as M&S name three Yorkshire stores proposed for closure

Three Marks and Spencer stores in Yorkshire have been named among the 17 proposed closures as part of the retailer’s programme “to reshape its UK store estate.”

The stores are located in Hull city centre, Huddersfield town centre and Parkgate Shopping Park in Rotherham.

The store closures are set to put 243 jobs at risk.

Paula Varley, M&S head of region for South Yorkshire and East Midlands, said: “Proposing to close these stores has been a difficult decision and we will be fully supporting our colleagues during this process.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll be making sure our colleagues are fully supported and will be speaking to everyone individually.

M&S announced it is now consulting with 93 employees from the Hull city centre store, 79 at the Parkgate Shopping Park store and 71 colleagues at the store in Huddersfield.

The trio of stores are among the 17 stores that have been listed as outlets the retailer is looking to close.

A total of 1,045 staff are expected to lose their jobs from stores in Ashford, Barrow, Bedford, Boston, Buxton, Cwmbran, Deal, Felixstowe, Huddersfield, Hull, Junction One Antrim Outlet, Luton Arndale, Newark, Northwich, Rotherham, Sutton Coldfield and Weston Super Mare.
