Plans submitted for university’s new engineering and technology campus

A planning application has been submitted for a new multi-million pound engineering and technology campus for the University of Leeds.

Proposals for the Leeds Engineering and Technology Campus (LETeC), to be located at the Gateway 45 north site in Leeds, were submitted by Indigo Planning.

The project will create a brand new campus to provide space for interdisciplinary researchers in infrastructure materials, high speed railways and systems integration, structural dynamics and robotics.

The campus will also house the new Institute for High Speed Rail and System Integration, which will operate as a research and innovation hub focussed on a systems approach for both conventional and high-speed rail engineering.

The space required for the development is too large for the university’s current city centre campus, therefore 4-hectares on the Gateway 45 site have been earmarked. This location is also adjacent to the proposed HS2 rolling stock depot.

A planning statement on the recently submitted application stated: “The proposed development would be a high-profile opportunity for the University which would provide them with a world leading research facility.”
