Work on multi-million pound homes development underway

A multi-million pound development of 60 mixed-tenure homes on the site of a former school in Wombwell, Barnsley, is underway following the acquisition of the 4.23-acre plot by Strategic Team Group and social housing provider Acis.

The Wombwell Oakfield Junior school site, adjacent to the new Kings Oak Primary Learning Centre, has been bought from a private owner for an undisclosed sum.  The land has remained undeveloped since the school closed in 2007 and, with the financial backing of Homes England, the new development will provide 60 homes comprising a mixture of 20 for outright purchase, 24 available on a shared ownership basis and a further 16 for affordable rent.

Andy Watson, Managing Director at Strategic Team Group, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Acis Group for the first time, delivering much needed affordable housing in the area. This development forms part of the 500 affordable homes we are building across Yorkshire and the North West this year.”

Andrea Lowman, Director of Property Service at Acis, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing more affordable housing to South Yorkshire and expanding our services to more people.”

Legal Adviser to Strategic was a team from Squire Patton Boggs, led by Edward Forth.  This transaction is the 15th undertaken for Strategic by Squire Patton Boggs. Legal adviser to Acis was a team from Bevan Brittan, led by Julie Cowan-Clark.
