Losses narrow at Doncaster Sheffield Airport as passenger numbers remain at 1.2m

Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has seen revenues fall just short of the £10m mark as passenger numbers rise just 0.3%. 

Recently field accounts for the year ending 31 March 2018 shows that turnover reached £9.6m, up 0.5% from £9.58m, in a year which saw 1,240,618 passengers use the airport – a 0.3% rise from 1,236,691 in the previous year.

During the period, DSA also decreased its pre-tax losses to £18m from the £22.2m reported the year prior.

Cargo traffic grew, with tonnage rising from 9,600 in 2017 to 11,500, which was due to the airport securing extra scheduled services and ad-hoc movements.

For the year ahead, the airport expects to see “continued growth” with airline TUI increasing its capacity at DSA by 30% with six new routes, including a long haul flight to Florida.

Wizz Air has also launched a brand new flight to Timisoara, Romania, from DSA.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “The airport will continue to closely manage its costs, work with its business partners to improve the operational efficiency of the airport and to attract new business.”
