The firm, which has an office in Normanton, has been awarded a five-year framework contract worth up to £50m to carry out geotechnical work on the LNE (London North Eastern) route.

This route stretches from the capital city to Scotland, with stops in York and Leeds.

The projects will cover renewals work on embankments, cuttings, drainage and tunnel portals along the route.

Story Contracting will also look to establish a regional office in York, grow the team and invest in its in-house Plant Division to support delivery of the geotech framework.

This new work will allow Story Contracting to employ around 25 additional staff over the coming year, and will also see the creation of new strategic partnerships with the wider supply chain.

Ian Purdham, Story Rail director, said: “I am delighted that Story Contracting has won this framework as it forms an extension of our earthworks portfolio from LNW. It also secures a framework in LNE which was always part of our long-term growth strategy. We’ve worked hard without ever having the permanent continuity that the framework brings and our team has done fantastically well for us.

“Winning this framework allows us to invest in the team and the region. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Network Rail and collaborating with them and the other successful framework contractors on the LNE route.”

Jason butterworth, Story Contracting chief executive, added: “We are thrilled with the news of another win from Network Rail which again reinforces our reputation for delivering quality projects safely, on time and to budget.

“This contract will mean we can employ even more professionals across the area and also entice new talent into the industry – including investment in the future with our graduate and apprentice programmes.

“It will also mean we can invest into local communities through our Corporate Social Responsibility programme which will deliver sustainable projects for local organisations and charities. ”

Story Contracting was founded in 1987 by Fred Story and has now grown to 700 employees across its five divisions which include Rail, Construction, Plant, Story Scotland and Reiver Homes.
