Expansion plans submitted at flower distribution business

Plans have been submitted for the expansion of a flowers distribution business in Newport, East Yorkshire.

The application is for a new storage facility on behalf of JZ Flowers and sister company Intergreen, which together process over 12 million stems of flowers per week and employ more than 750 people.

JZ Flowers is the sole supplier to all of Aldi’s national outlets, whereas Intergreen distributes bouquets solely for Tesco.

A statement submitted as part of the plans said the new facility will provide a “much needed raw materials storage facility to accommodate increased floral bouquet production in the adjacent buildings.”

This latest development forms part of a ten-year expansion programme to amalgamate three separate sites – Hull, Beverley and Newport – into one single site.

Flower packing in the East Yorkshire region is now the largest single centre of UK production, and collectively JZ and Intergreen account for 27% of UK flower bouquets sold in supermarkets.
