My Yorkshire: Richard Bright, Murray Harcourt

Richard Bright is the Managing Partner at the Leeds-based accountancy practice, Murray Harcourt.

Where do you live/where are you from?

I was born in York, so proud to be Yorkshire born and bred. Over the years I have lived in London and Australia but can safely say that Yorkshire is still the best place on Earth and I am glad I am back.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

It has to be The Shambles in York. It is such a unique place hidden away in the city centre, sat in the past with so many stories to tell.

What is still on your ‘to do’ list in the region?

To complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 8 hours. My Murray Harcourt partners and I did it 18 months ago finishing in the traditional 12 hour time frame. It was harder than I thought so just need to get back into the training to achieve my goal!

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

Man Behind the Curtain. Whilst I like simple food this was amazing – the experience, the service, the company and of course the food – it was out of this world.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

Apparently I am very direct and I don’t hold back on sharing my opinion…

Favourite piece of trivia about the region

Barkston Ash village claims the honour that it’s ash tree (also at the centre of the village) marks the central point of Yorkshire.  The official Ordnance Survey says otherwise…!

Who is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Jeremy Clarkson – he says it as it is and doesn’t care what people think plus he knows a thing or two about cars.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

As the word continues to get out about how amazing the region it is getting busier, which is great for the region but not for my commute!

What is the one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

Being a true ale fan, I wouldn’t say no to Adams heading North.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

Controversial but can we really claim the Yorkshire pudding?
