Historic mansion to be redeveloped into residential scheme

A property developer has announced its intentions to acquire a Grade-II listed mansion in Leeds.

Fernville House in Roundhay, which dates back 140 years, is currently listed on the Leeds Council Buildings At Risk Register.

C W Langton, the Leeds-based property developer, has asked Leeds City Council for pre-application advice on on the mansion. The developer has already agreed a finance package with Lloyds Bank, subject to the viable scheme being approved.

The plans submitted by C W Langton comprise of 13 family homes on the site and are in line with the Leeds City Council’s Density Policy.

In the last 20 years, Fernville House has suffered fire damage, dry and wet rot, vandalism and is now structurally unstable. While refurbishment of the villa is not viable, the plot has residual land to allow enabling development to fund the villas restoration.

Last occupied in the form of five flats under the ownership of Leeds City Council, the mansion was listed on the 2009 Buildings at Risk in Leeds report as one of the top targets featuring at number four of the top six on the list.

William Langton, director of C W Langton, said: “We are excited to have submitted a viable scheme of development to the council which holds the opportunity to save Fernville House, and allow this once grand, character property, to again form family homes for generations to come. Now is the opportunity to stop any further dereliction.”
