Mercury get the temperatures rising to win Crypt Factor

The region’s property industry helped to raise a record £90,000 for local charities at last night’s Crypt Factor, making it the most successful night in the event’s history.

An audience of almost 1,000 people descended on Elland Road for the annual singing competition. Kev Brown from ELS Advisory, Andrew Hunt from TFG Capital and Rachel Brewin from Propaganda, saw off competition from eight other acts to take the title of Crypt Factor 2019 winner. Their act – Mercury – put on a spectacular medley of Queen hits which had the audience on their feet. The night raised funds for St George’s Crypt and The Leeds Fund, which is managed by Leeds Community Foundation.

X Factor legend and Hollyoaks star Ray Quinn also made a surprise appearance and took to the stage to sing. Quinn, who was originally in Brookside, made it to the finals of The X Factor in 2006, before narrowly missing out to Leona Lewis who went on to become a global pop sensation.

Quinn then joined The Crypt Factor’s judging panel alongside the show’s organisers and sponsors, comprising of Dawn Allen from Pinsent Masons, Craig Burrow from Bruntwood and Garry Howes from Gent Visick.

A lively auction, hosted by James Pank of The Auction House, also helped raise additional funds for the two charities. Prizes included a training session and matchday package with Leeds Rhinos, a VIP package at this year’s Tour De Yorkshire and a box at Rita Ora’s upcoming concert at Leeds First Direct Arena.

Crypt Factor organising committee member, Garry Howes from Gent Visick, said: “Crypt Factor 2019 was one of our best ever shows. We had a really strong line-up of singers, a new compere in Ben Hall from Colliers who did a great job, and this year we’ve pushed the total amount donated to charity in the Crypt Factor’s 13-year history to more than £740,000, which is a staggering sum.”

Kev Brown, from the winning group, Mercury, said: “Winning Crypt Factor 2019 and helping to raise an extraordinary amount of money for two deserving charities is amazing. The whole experience has been fantastic from start to finish and I’d definitely advise anyone who has ever considered singing in the competition to put themselves forward and just go for it.”
