Town planning consultancy launches in Sheffield

Planning consultancy Urbana Town Planning has launched in Sheffield with an ambition to bring a “fresh dynamic” to the sector.

The Urbana team, made up of five planning professionals, moved into their new headquarters in Sheffield’s Steel City House earlier this month.

As well as a Sheffield city centre address, the consultancy will also run a London office to complement their work in the UK’s capital and surrounding counties.

Charles Dunn, associate at Urbana, said: “We’ve got a great mix of experience and ambition in the team, and we pride ourselves on our professionalism and honest approach. We are a consciously smaller team compared with many other consultancies, as we believe this allows for us to provide a more dynamic, personal and tailored service. We go out of our way to genuinely connect with our clients and understand their design and commercial objectives.

“We are all hugely passionate about the built environment. We are fascinated with how it impacts the way in which our cities work. This is particularly relevant in Sheffield – the city we call home. We’re determined to see it grow in the best way possible and want our business to be at the heart of the great projects that drive it forward.

“We are fortunate to have some large, truly exciting schemes across the UK coming forward in the next few months and we can’t wait to get started.”

Adam Murray, managing director of Urbana Town Planning, added: “The launch of Urbana reflects the confidence we have in our clients, company and team. Sheffield is enjoying real momentum and we can see a clear opportunity to grow our business through providing clear and precise planning advice to all those looking to invest in our home city and create amazing places to live, work and visit.

“We are seeing comparable growth in other parts of the country, which is why Urbana will continue to support clients across the UK from our offices in Sheffield and London. We see nothing but opportunity.

“This is a new chapter for our team, which builds on the strong platform we built together with our former colleagues from Coda. As a new chapter starts for myself and Urbana, I am also confident that Coda will continue their good work, not least as we will continue to work together on a number of projects.”

Among Urbana’s most recent success are major residential schemes in Killamarsh in North East Derbyshire – providing 400 homes, and Thorpe in Surrey – providing 100 homes.
Originally Green Belt sites, both projects required extensive strategic planning, strong policy arguments and promotion over many years in their respective Local Plans to successfully reach a point where they are now allocated for housing.

They are also currently leading the planning process on Hoyle Street – a major £70m scheme in Sheffield city centre. Currently in planning, the flagship residential-led development will provide around 500 residential units and 6,000 sq ft of commercial space.
