Gaming bar continues winning streak

A premier gaming bar in Leeds is celebrating a big win at the 2019 National Pub and Bar Awards, after walking away with three prestigious gongs.

Boar Lane’s Roxy Ball Room have been named the Best Bar in West Yorkshire, beating off tough competition from some of the county’s best-loved bars.

The flagship Roxy Leisure Group bar was also named the Best Bar in Yorkshire and the Humber, toppling five of the region’s most iconic establishments. The win was announced at a red carpet awards ceremony hosted by legendary food critic Jay Rayner.

The event was held at BAFTA 195 in London on the 22nd May, where a total of 94 individual bars were named the best venues in their respective counties. The National Pub and Bar Awards, now in its fourth year, aims to recognise the crème de la crème of the UK pub and bar scene for their hard work.

The Leeds city centre based venue also managed to beat each of the 94 winning counties to be named the Marston’s Telecoms Tech Savvy Pub and Bar of the Year. This was in recognition of their forward-thinking online booking system, polished website and use of on-site technology.

The news comes as Roxy Ball Room announce further plans for expansion, as well as a brand new training programme which aims to further strengthen the brand as an employer of choice.

The venue became an overnight success after opening back in 2013, winning people over with its ping pong and pool gaming concept. The bar has since expanded its arsenal of gaming options to include a nine-hole mini golf course and several tournament sized shuffleboard tables.

Roxy Leisure has since opened a second Roxy Ball Room in central Leeds on Merrion Street, as well as bars in Manchester, Nottingham and two in Liverpool.

The group portfolio also includes spin-off bowling bar Roxy Lanes, sing-along party bar Loop and The Parkside Tavern, all situated in central Leeds.

Roxy Leisure brand development manager Joel Mitchell said: “No pun intended, but we were absolutely bowled over by our triple win at The National Pub and Bar Awards in London! I’m very proud of the brand, what we’ve done and where we’re going, and to be recognised as not only the best bar in county, but also the entire region is just mind-blowing.”

“We always try our best to employ the very best people and this win is down to the blood, sweat and tears everyone from our bar staff to management team have put in. I’d also like to give a big shout out to our loyal customers, because let’s face it – we wouldn’t be here without them.”
