Uniform supplier dressed for overseas success with bank deal

121 Workwear has supplied uniforms to Wensleydale Creamery amongst other global clients

A Northallerton-based workwear supplier is set for ambitious UK and overseas growth with a six-figure funding package.

121 Workwear, established in 2013, is experiencing a rapid increase in interest from customers in the UK and Europe for its branded workwear, uniforms and promotional clothing.

To meet demand, the business has used HSBC UK’s funding to purchase new embroidering machines and direct garment print equipment, as well as recruit eight staff across production, customer service and web development.

The new machinery, coupled with a boosted workforce, is expected to raise production by 50% in the next year.

In addition, the business is also investing in a new online sales platform to provide a more personalised experience to its customers in key markets including equestrian, construction and industrial sectors.

AJ Swinback, managing director, 121 Workwear, said: “Fashion is changing and that means workwear is too. What sets us apart from our competition is our ability to add value through providing our customers with a premium experience and high-quality garments. HSBC UK’s support is hugely important in helping us respond to the increased demand we’re experiencing and is enabling us to grow in a way that is still sustainable for the business.”

Connie Hill, relationship manager for North & West Yorkshire, HSBC UK ,said: “It’s fantastic to see 121 Workwear experience this success and growth in what can be a challenging sector. AJ and his team have a strong understanding of their customers and we’re pleased to support the business as it responds to increasing demand.”

121 Workwear supplies a proportion of uniforms to Deliveroo, Uber and Grand National, and has recently secured an ongoing export contract to a customer in Switzerland, marking the business’ first export into Europe.

The business currently employs 25 people.
