MBO plots new future at architecture practice
Ilkley-based architects Halliday Clark has announced the completion of a management buyout from founders Adam Clark and David Halliday.
The 15-strong practice is now headed up by three directors, Nick Pearce, Emily Blowers and Richard Walsh, who have been with the practice in senior roles for a combined 36 years.
Halliday and Clark will still be involved in the day to day activities of the business and will not be leaving the company for a minimum period of three years.
Halliday Clark was set up in 1993 in Bradford, moving to its newly designed and purpose-built offices in Ilkley last year.
Both directors will continue to work within the practice which has a national portfolio of clients in both the private and B2B sectors, including residential, education and commercial.
It has also gained a name for itself in specialist and cultural restoration having successfully delivered a series of sensitive restoration projects such as All Saints Church in Ilkley, the Masterplan for Scargill House religious centre in Kettlewell, and the newly refurbished Globe Mills Innovation Centre in Slaithwaite.
Director Nick Pearce said the MBO had been completed at the right time for the business, allowing the founders a “seamless and planned” transition out of the practice.
He said: “The MBO is a natural evolution of the business to ensure its future success and growth, and the team are delighted and proud to be taking the practice forward.
“The new management board of directors have all been at Halliday Clark for a number of years and already committed to the business. The MBO will enable us to forward plan, as well as offer opportunities for other team members to step up and enjoy career development as the company moves forward.”

Halliday Clark has been a labour of love over the past 26 years but starting and running your own business can be all-consuming and both David and I know the business is now in the very best hands. We plan to make sure Halliday Clark goes from strength to strength over the next few years and then enjoy watching the practice thrive.”
