Management changes at Surgical Innovations

A surgical technology company has revealed changes to its board and management structure.

Chief financial officer Melanie Ross has decided to leave Surgical Innovations, which designs, makes and distributes equipment for minimally invasive surgery.

Ross will depart with effect from 30 June 2019. She led the turnaround of the company in 2014/2015, and has subsequently further developed the business through her roles as Chief Operating Officer and as well as CFO.

The Leeds business said that following recent organisational changes, Ross had expressed her intention to pursue other opportunities.

She will pass her finance responsibilities to Charmaine Day (Company Secretary and Group Financial Controller), who will report directly to Chief Executive Officer David Marsh.

Day is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants and joined the company in 2012 from her previous role as Management Accountant at Ellis Fairbank Plc.

Surgical Innovations said it was continuing to strengthen its operational and compliance team at its Leeds site.

As part of this process, Steve Seed has accepted a new position as Compliance Director of Surgical Innovations Limited, also reporting to David Marsh, with effect from 2 September 2019.

Seed holds an MSc in Medical Technology Regulatory Affairs from Cranfield University and has almost 30 years’ experience of responsibility for quality assurance, health and safety and regulatory affairs.

Seed joins from Xiros Limited, where he is currently Compliance Director, and previously held the position of Quality Assurance Manager and Head of Regulatory Affairs at Surgical Innovations Group plc between 2006 and 2011.

Surgical Innovations chairman Nigel Rogers said: “The Board thanks Melanie for her considerable achievements with the Group during her tenure and wishes her well for the future.

“We look forward to Steve joining our team in due course.

“Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in navigating the increasing challenges presented in the current regulatory environment, and will reinforce our capabilities and streamline processes in this critical area.”
