My Yorkshire: Sarah Barraclough, MD of Skipton Properties

Sarah Barraclough is the managing director of Skipton Properties.

Where do you live/where are you from?
Skipton.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
I recently visited York again and I realised I need to visit more often. It’s a gorgeous city, jam-packed with stunning and sometimes quirky architecture. I will be taking my children for the first time this summer.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
Yorkshire Sculpture Park and more stately homes and castles.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
I’m a big lover of food, from the simple to the elegant. I’d say The Black Swan in Helmsley’s tasting menu is up there, but so are Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour’s breakfasts!

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
I’d like to say my friendliness, but perhaps it’s also dropping my t’s and saying ta!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.
Bradford was once known as the wool capital of the world.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
Apparently the public think a Yorkshire Pudding trumps my choice. Dame Judi Dench; she once opened a drama studio at the High School I went to, and I was lucky enough to meet her.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?
Honestly, the weather!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
Bakewell Tart from Derbyshire.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
Nothing – that’s the reason it’s referred to as “God’s own Country”!
