£2.2m scheme to turn vacant mill into homes

A £2.2m programme of restoration work will soon begin on a property in Holmfirth to create 11 luxury, two-bedroom apartments.
Priestley Homes, a Leeds-based developer specialising in the regeneration of historic buildings, will be responsible for the scheme at Green Lane Mill.
The plans for this project – a joint venture with GJR Developments – were originally submitted in 2017 and subject to an 18-month appeal process.
They will see the transformation of the former mill into a residential development for owner-occupiers.
A six-month programme of work is expected to start in the third quarter of this year and will be carried out by the developer’s contracting arm, Priestley Construction. Completion is expected in the first quarter of next year.
The project team comprises contractor, Priestley Construction; architects, Priestley Design Ltd and planning consultant, Indigo Planning.
Nathan Priestley, chief executive officer of Priestley Homes, said: “We’re thrilled to have been given the green light to transform this exquisite building into sophisticated new homes.
“Our talented team is excited to bring the property, which has been vacant for two years, back to its former glory.
“Our original plans were fully supported by the Local Planning Authority, which saw the merit in transforming a disused building into much-needed homes in the area.
“Unfortunately, the scheme took 18 months to receive approval by committee despite hitting all necessary planning policy benchmarks from the offset.
“Our resilience during this process, which should have been a straightforward planning application, demonstrates our commitment to the scheme and to bringing luxury, contemporary apartments to this sought-after market town.”
