CEO of £176m-turnover group steps down

Glynn Thomas

The chief executive of a £176m-turnover group has resigned and the firm has announced an interim Group CEO.

Bob Vickers

Clugston Group, the privately owned company based in Leeds and Scunthorpe which has interests in construction, logistics, facilities management and property development, has announced that CEO Bob Vickers has left the business.

The appointment of Glynn Thomas as interim Group CEO has been announced at the same time. Thomas has a background in construction, as well as facilities services, in both public and private sector organisations.

Clugston said that having achieved a restructuring of the Group, overseen changes to the senior management team and created a new operating platform for each of the Company’s business units, Vickers decided that the next phase of the Group’s development requires different leadership to take the Group forward.

Chairman, John Clugston, expressed disappointment that Mr Vickers had resigned, but is grateful for the positive contribution he has brought to the Group, wishing him well for the future.

John Clugston welcomed the appointment of Thomas to the board as interim CEO.

In August last year, the company hailed a record 49% revenue rise from £118.2m to £176m for the year ended January 2018.

At the time, it said that specific challenges and the cost of a restructuring programme resulted in a small loss before tax, of £500,000 from a £1m profit the year before, but the group said that from a strategic perspective the business made “real progress” in building the foundations for sustainable growth and profitability.

The restructure included changes to its leadership team, including appointments to its HR, IT, logistics strategic land and facilities management divisions. The company also split its construction division into three profit centres – regional and national, construction, facilities management and energy from waste.

Today, its distribution business also announced an expansion.
