Plans revealed to redevelop former police station as 94-apartment scheme

Plans for a prestigious residential development in the centre of Hull have been revealed.

Iguana Developments has formally launched the Glass House apartments at the former police station property in Queen’s Gardens.

Work is now in progress and once finished, the building will comprise 94 apartments with 21 duplex penthouses being added to the roof of the original building, complete with 105 parking spaces.

Iguana Developments’ Managing Director, Jason Coleman, said: “We are pleased to launch The Glass House, which I believe is a major landmark in the city centre’s regeneration and with registered interest already from local people who want to live in the city centre, we are confident to say so.

“Once again we are offering apartments to market for sale and focusing on owner-occupiers to continue building a solid community where neighbours know one another and share access to smart amenities built into our developments.

“This includes the residents’ gym and cinema, but we also have some additional features designed especially for this development.”

The business entered the local property development scene in 2015, investing almost £40m to refurbish Essex House on Manor Street, Liberty House on Liberty Lane and now the Glass House.

Coleman added: “The key for us is to stand out from other developers on quality and to include high-tech features as standard.

“Our aim is to give buyers more than a place to live, we provide a lifestyle. The results speak for themselves. The Glass House is a real showpiece, with panoramic views of Queen’s Gardens all within a few minutes walk from city centre amenities.”

The property’s main elevation on Dock Avenue is fully glazed and features a two-storey atrium entrance. Queen’s Dock Avenue is to be fully pedestrianised, linking the Glass House directly to Queen’s Gardens which itself is receiving a £2.5m facelift starting in spring 2020.

Coleman said: “We complement the new commercial activity in the Old Town by providing homes for people who want to walk to work and enjoy the local leisure and entertainment after work.

“It’s great to hear feedback from home hunters who hadn’t considered moving into the city centre until now.”
