Region prepares for MIPIM 2020 delegation

Key players from across Leeds City Region came together this week to throw their support behind the LEP and the launch of the Leeds City Region at MIPIM 2020 sponsorship opportunities.

Delegates from the private and public sector will once again be given the opportunity to attend the annual property conference – which will be held in Cannes next March –  to showcase the scale of opportunities available within the UK’s largest city region economy outside of London.

Last year MIPIM attracted over 26,000 delegates and gave the 100-strong Leeds City Region delegation the chance to get in front of some of the most influential players in the international property industry.

At MIPIM 2019, Leeds City Region projects brought home two international awards. Harrogate-based Fallons beat off stiff competition from China and the United States to win “Best Futura Mega Project” at the MIPIM Awards for their Future Parks project. The Leeds City Region team was also recognised, winning the fDi Strategy Award for their work on the Burberry inward investment project.

With the largest economy in the Northern Powerhouse contributing £69.6 billion GVA to the national economy, the region has the highest rate of private sector jobs growth in the UK and is transforming to a knowledge-based economy faster than other UK cities.

Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership manages the City Region presence at MIPIM each year, driving economic growth and profiling investment opportunities to an international audience of developers and investors.

Roger Marsh OBE, Chair, Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and NP11, said: “MIPIM – arguably one of the most important economic development conferences on the international calendar – allows us to showcase the huge potential and opportunities that Leeds City Region has to offer. For me, it’s a key opportunity for the public and private sector to come together to position the region on the global stage.”

“I’m looking forward to working with our partners to build and strengthen our national and international reputation at MIPIM 2020, as a region that works hard and delivers for the people who live, work and invest here.”

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leader of Bradford Council added: “At MIPIM last year we had the opportunity to showcase the many opportunities that Bradford has to offer in terms of investment and our ambitious growth plans. MIPIM is a fantastic platform to promote Bradford and the wider City Region to a global audience.”

“It’s no coincidence that as a region we are attracting more domestic and foreign direct investment interest than ever before, and we’ll continue to work to promote the region and all the opportunities that exist here.”

Amanda Beresford, Partner and Head of Planning at Shulmans LLP and newly appointed chair of the Leeds Chamber of Commerce, said:  “MIPIM is one of the most important real estate conferences of the year and presents a powerful opportunity for the region to raise its profile to an international audience of senior developers, investors and other decision makers to help secure the kind of investment which will contribute greatly to the success of the region and all of us who live and work in it.”

“Demonstrating excellent public and private collaboration is one of the key attractions to such an audience and I am therefore always delighted to be part of the MIPIM delegation.”

Support for the Leeds City Region’s attendance at MIPIM has continued to grow and last year saw the largest delegation to date.
