£1m allocated to fund advanced engineering facility
The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Board has committed almost £1m worth of funding to develop an Advanced Engineering Manufacturing Unit.
The project will deliver a 15,000 sq ft light industrial unit at the Enterprise Zone site in Stallingborough, designed to meet the needs of an advanced engineering manufacturing business. The unit will offer a mix of office, research and development, manufacturing and distribution space.
The Humber LEP Board committed £950,000 from the Humber’s Local Growth Fund allocation towards the project at their meeting on July 12. The funding was secured from Government as part of its commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.
The unit will be suitable for a range of business uses in the long-term. But it is particularly intended to support the advanced manufacturing sector, which has been identified by North East Lincolnshire Council as a particular target for the site.
The 64ha site is a designated Enterprise Zone and is being promoted and delivered by North East Lincolnshire Council with support from landowners.
This scheme has been brought forward to secure an anchor tenant to generate further investment interest at the Stallingborough site.
North East Lincolnshire Council is also set to commit £1,766,880 towards the project – which will support 80 new jobs and will provide 1,394 sq m of floor space in total once complete.
Chair of the Humber LEP, Lord Haskins, said: “We are very pleased to be allocating this funding towards the facility.
“The manufacturing sector is one of huge importance to our region – and is an area we have highlighted in our Humber Industrial Strategy as essential to the future growth of the region.
“We hope this unit not only provides jobs for local people as the project is completed, but also helps attract further businesses to the Stallingborough site.”
Cllr John Fenty, Cabinet member for regeneration at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “This will be the first major build on the Stallingborough site, and we’re in advanced discussions with an anchor tenant.
“The South Humber project itself will see a number of key projects delivered over a five to 10-year period and when complete the programme will create 90 hectares of additional employment land, create 4,000 jobs and generate £200m within the local economy over the next 25 years.”
Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth, MP Jake Berry, said: “The Government is committed to boosting economic growth across the whole of the Northern Powerhouse, so people have the opportunity to succeed no matter where they are from.
“This significant investment in the Enterprise Zone in Stallingborough, made possible with almost £1m from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, will support the advanced manufacturing sector in Humberside, help generate further investment in the site and bring new jobs to the area.”
