Plans to develop up to 75 homes on disused quarry site

Up to 75 houses could be built on the site of a former quarry in Brighouse, West Yorkshire.

Calderdale Council has received an outline application from KPP Architects for the 1.83 acre site at Pond Quarry, of Lightcliffe Road.

If approved by the council, the new housing estate would feature a mix of semi detached, detached and terraced two, three and four-bedroom homes. Vehicle access would be from Granny Hall Lane.

A design statement accompanying the proposals explains: “The site is currently a disused quarry, with excavation down approximately 20 m at the quarry base.

“The site is currently overgrown with foliage and a number of derelict buildings, and hasn’t been used as a quarry for approximately 50 years.

“The final design and layout will be set out by a subsequent Reserved Matters planning application, taking into account the design considerations outlined in this document.

“The form, scale and design of the proposed dwellings will complement the nature of the surrounding built environment, maintaining the overall character of the residential area providing much needed high quality housing.

“This site makes an important and positive contribution toward the council’s five-year housing land supply. The proposed mix of townhouses, semi-detached and larger family homes will
provide an inclusive and safe environment that will positively enhance community cohesion assisting the retention and preservation of local schools, services and community facilities within Brighouse and the surrounding area.

“The land is within a highly sustainable suburban location where shops, places of employment and education and community facilities are accessible in reasonable walking or cycling distance without reliance on car ownership or usage. In addition, there are bus stops to the application site frontage on Lightcliffe Road providing frequent services to the wider area.”
