£500,000 investment to fuel expansion at £2.5m turnover manufacturing firm

Yeadon-based contract spool-winding business ProSpool has invested another £500,000 in new equipment at its factory to facilitate further growth.

The money has been spent on a custom-built spool winding machine. The spending comes as the company marks its 25th year in business and represents the end of the first phase of a three-year capital investment programme.

ProSpool has been operating since 1994, maintaining a core customer base while diversifying into the security, automotive, health and hygiene, construction and food packaging markets.

The company’s custom spooling lines can produce spool widths ranging from 2mm to 76mm and its production teams operate 24 hours a day, five days a week from a 35,000 sq ft factory. The investment in the 26-station spool winder will increase capacity by 25% at a time when ProSpool is winning contracts from new customers including the US-headquartered Berry Global and Japanese corporation, Nitto.

ProSpool Managing Director, Richard Hobson, said: “Demand for spool winding comes from different industries in all corners of the globe. We receive a huge range of materials in a variety of different formats into our factory each week, and our job is to cut them to the desired width and wind them onto industrial spools, delivering them back to customers to be loaded onto high speed production lines.

“The materials we process are used in applications as diverse as cheese packaging and window fabrication through to security documentation and hygiene products, and we provide customers with complete traceability. Every spool has a unique output label detailing the component parts of the spooled material it holds.

“From our UK base we currently serve more than 25 countries across six continents, with customers ranging from blue chip international conglomerates to independent businesses.

“There is growing demand for contract spool winding services across many industries, and our focus for the next five years is to capitalise on these opportunities and continue to grow the business from its current £2.5 million turnover. This is the first phase of a £1.5m capital investment programme that will see existing jobs secured and new roles created over the next 18 months. We are looking ahead to an exciting future.”

ProSpool is part of the Skaife Group of companies, which serves a global customer base.
