Weekender: Rare chance to see ‘remake history’ collection at luxury automotive brand

Land Rover Defender specialist Twisted will again be opening its gates, welcoming hundreds of fans and families to its forecourt to gain an exclusive insight into what goes into the making of a Twisted vehicle.

This year’s open day, at the company’s Thirsk HQ, takes place on Saturday 27th July, when limited edition full-build and part-build vehicles from the ‘Remake History’ collection will be among the attractions.

Twisted bought this final batch of Defender vehicles to come off the JLR production line in 2016. Build slots were made available in January 2019 to mark three years since the end of Land Rover production. The collection includes Twisted’s modern interpretation of the Series II, Series IIA, Series III and Stage One V8.

The company’s recently completed Lightweight build will also be on display to the public for the first time. Originally designed as a military vehicle for the British Army between 1968-1984, the name refers to the payload it was created to carry. The aim was to strip its panels to make it slim enough to fit inside a plane and light enough to be transported by helicopter.

The Lightweight is perhaps the most unique element of the Remake History collection. Its design features include a canvas roof, low-backed classic seating and half height doors with folding windscreen. This model is the first of 10 from the cherished Remake History stock, bought by Twisted when JLR ceased production of the Defender three years ago.

The open day will also provide an opportunity to find out more about the business, with members of the team on hand to give tours of the workshop and answer questions about the build process.

The gates open at 10am and the fun continues until 4pm. The event is free to attend without a ticket, food and drink will be available on site, and a DJ will spin tunes from the boot of his Defender throughout the day. There is on-street parking around the site.

Twisted Automotive Managing Director, Charles Fawcett, said: “Every year we look forward to hosting an open day for customers, fans and local residents and we’re particularly excited this year due to the momentous Remake History collection which will be a dream to view for Defender enthusiasts.

“We relish this opportunity to bring local communities together, providing a wonderful day out for all the family while celebrating automotive excellence. Last year was our highest attendance yet and we would love to welcome faces old and new to make this the biggest and best open day yet.”
