Weekender: Football tournament will raise money for charity

The company Business Fives makes its debut in Leeds on 13 August with a football tournament backed by local technologists and consultants, Infinity Works.

Business Fives creates sports events with a charitable impact in the local community. So far, Business Fives has raised over £82,500 for charities through its corporate football events and it aims this summer to surpass the £100,000 milestone.

Leeds firms interested in participating this month have the opportunity to become champions of the city, with qualification for the national final at stake.

The five-a-side events will visit nine English cities before the tournament concludes with the national final at the start of October, where England’s national business five-a-side champions will be crowned.

Pete Cotton, Operations Director at the tournament’s partner Infinity Works, said: “It’s a real privilege for Infinity Works to be part of such a great event, promoting social values and helping good causes whilst having a bit of fun.

“In keeping with this, we’ve already booked an environmentally friendly electric open top bus for our victory parade around Leeds city centre!”

With Business Fives’ company commitment since its inception to donate 10% from all revenue to charity, it will be the overall England champions who will dictate where the bumper donation ends up. Charities supported by the companies taking part include Fight for Sight, CALM, American Childhood Cancer Organisation and Cancer Research UK.

Companies already signed up for the tournament in Leeds so far include Infinity Works, KPMG, LNER, Freeths, Willmott Dixon, Medisoft, Tenet Group, Daisy Group, Intermarketing Agency, NetPremacy Global Services, Mackinnon Bruce, Verona Group, Symingtons and WebAnywhere.

Tournament founder and Business Fives Managing Director, John McClarey, said: “We are really excited about expanding the event to a prestigious city like Leeds with its rich footballing history. We are expecting to see a lot of talent on show.

“We are delighted with how the local business community in Leeds has received the event with excitement building ahead of kick off.  We appreciate the support of our event partners, Infinity Works and we’re looking forward to working with them to create a positive impact on the community.”

The Leeds tournament takes place at Goals, in Redcote Lane, with registration starting at 1.45pm. Visit https://www.businessfives.co.uk/leeds-corporate-football-summer-event-2019/ for details.
