£250m turnover consultancy snaps up subsidence investigation specialist

Environmental, engineering and technical services consultancy RSK has announced its latest acquisition – Redcar-based subsidence investigation specialist Geocore Site Investigations.

It marks the fifth acquisition for the fast-growing RSK group this financial year. The business has offices across the UK, including bases in Leeds, Wakefield and Malton. It now employs more than 3,100 staff in 100 offices worldwide and has an annual turnover of more than £250m.

Geocore is a company of 30 people concentrating on the investigation of domestic subsidence, providing detailed site surveys with foundation inspections and drainage CCTV. Its services include trial pitting, window sampling, rotary drilling and cable percussion drilling.

RSK Founder and Chief Executive Alan Ryder said: “Geocore’s service provision complements RSK’s existing services perfectly and I am looking forward to expanding our drilling provision as we begin collaborating.

“Like RSK, Geocore focuses on its employees and clients. I’m confident this shared ethos, with our complementary services, will allow both companies to thrive.”

Geocore will become part of RSK’s contracting division under the direction of RSK Divisional Director Claire Knighton.

Adam Woodhead, Geocore’s Managing Director and Founder, will continue to lead the business with the support of Director Michelle Woodhead.

Adam Woodhead said: “As a people-orientated business, Geocore is excited to be joining a larger business with a shared ethos and family feel.

“We see many synergies that will provide new opportunities for us all.

“Moving forward with the support of RSK’s integrated safety, health, environmental and quality management system, I will be delighted to see Geocore take the next step as a respected provider of specialist drilling solutions.”

Geocore is the latest acquisition under RSK’s funding package from Ares Capital Europe and a revolving credit facility provided by NatWest announced in December 2018.

RSK is investing in the development of new businesses, bolt-on complementary businesses, equipment and capabilities to increase its services and expand internationally.

Nicola Merritt, of Dow Schofield Watts Transaction Services, advised RSK on the deal.
