Acquisitive wellbeing firm swoops up third business in a year

An acquisitive Leeds-based digital wellbeing platform has snapped up a health and wellbeing specialist with a one-to-one counselling and mindfulness service.

hero has acquired The Balanced You, which provides services including wellbeing retreats, reiki and hypnotherapy.

This is the third acquisition for hero in 12 months and comes just weeks before it launches its first physical Training Club in the heart of Manchester at Angel Gardens, opposite Amazon’s new HQ. In June, the firm also successfully raised £1.3m to support its growth overseas.

Founded four years ago, The Balanced You works with companies including the BBC, HSBC and Trinity Leeds to deliver a range of mental health focused services.  The Balanced You has been acquired due to the complementary services it can offer hero and its client roster which, now sits at well over 100.

Joe Gaunt, CEO of hero, said: “Health means much more than having your five a day and exercising for 150 minutes a week.  Our emotional and mental wellbeing is a critical part of our overall health. We have been aware of the great work done by The Balanced You for some time and respect the way the business has captured the market and successfully positioned itself.  Mental and psychological wellbeing is a cornerstone of hero’s overall health proposition, so this is a significant acquisition to bolster our offer and indeed our team of experienced, qualified and passionate specialists.

“We are on a mission to help, support and educate people at every stage of their life to navigate their personal wellbeing journey, and The Balanced You is a great fit for this.  We believe we can offer a unique, agile and responsive service which can transform the corporate wellbeing landscape and enable individuals and organisations to realise their goals.”

hero will be developing The Balanced You model and using technology to further broaden its reach for mental health services and in-person support.

Founder of The Balanced You, Ashleigh Turner will join the hero group.  She said: “This is such an exciting time.  This acquisition will enable the business to achieve our ambitions and scale our offer, under the hero brand.  The success hero has achieved over the past 12 months has been remarkable and I am looking forward to working with Joe and the wider hero team and its clients.”
