WORK looks likely to restart soon on the mothballed £650m Trinity Leeds shopping centre after the developers signed up fashion chain Next as a key tenant.

Property group Land Securities, which is developing the site alongside Yorkshire group Caddick Developments, said that Next will open a 51,000 sq ft store in the scheme which will boast 120 shops on a site between Briggate, Commercial Street, Albion Street and Boar Lane.

Good to hear it's back on track but I find it hard to get excited about a massive Next. I know there are few anchor tenants out there that would be new to the city but I hope some of the other names they bring on add something to the city's shopping offering instead of just moving units. Clarence Dock may have been a flop so far but at least some of the stores are new to the city.

It would be great to see this development again underway and boosting Leeds' leisure profile. An arena would be nice too, of course...
