AROUND 100 workers are facing the axe at a Yorkshire cake manufacturer following the loss of a major contract.

Greencore, which employs 3,000 people at Hull and its other Yorkshire factories  is the UK's leading supplier of Christmas cakes and chilled non-dairy desserts.

Its factory on Amsterdam Road in Hull employs around 1,000 people including agency staff.

Greencore said the loss of a contract with a major customer was to blame for the restructuring.
