The council was granted the authority to award a large casino licence after a successful bid to the Government in 2006, and says it is now in the position to start the licensing process with a view to granting a licence in the Leeds in under two years.

What a ridiculous initiative for Leeds Council to support. A giant casino will not bring any benefit whatsoever to the City of Leeds. There's 36 numbers on a roulette wheel, the zero being the 'house number.' For every £100 staked, the only financial benefit derived is the £2.77 that the casino operator pockets. Clarence Dock's much feted Alea Casino hasn't exactly pulled that particular development out of the doldrums? What makes the council think that another casino is going to add anything whatsoever to Leeds? Cllr Andrew Carter should consider concentrating on fixing the potholes in our roads.

I wish Leeds would let this casino thing go. The city looks like a mess at the moment and there are much bigger fish to fry. As for benefits this is debatable and I fail to see what the rest of the city's casinos have done as far as wider benefits are concerned. City's that are classed as gambling destinations such as Las Vegas, Biloxi and even blackpool (to a degree) do benefit the area to a point as they are taking money from outsiders and putting it back in to the community. I'd fear a casino in Leeds would bring down and suck money from the poorer areas of the city and then put it back in - creating a cycle akin to a tax on the desperate. The image of casinos in Britian, despite what the likes of Alea have attempted, do not come close to those in Vegas (for obvious reasons) and for Leeds to champion itself as a casino city will do more harm than good.

Let Blackpool have the Casinos. I thought this immoral project had been dropped. Has anyone on the Council seen the results of gambling?
