Law firm helps ballroom stars dance their way to commercial success

A YORK law firm has helped Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton du Beke and Erin Boag take their first steps to becoming a global brand.

The dance partners have built a huge following through their sell-out Ballroom Dance shows and television appearances.

Following advice from trade mark and paten attorney firm Mathys and Squire the duo have applied to register their individual names as well as ‘Anton and Erin’ – as a trade mark for use in relation to multiple commercial activities including dance tuition, demonstrations, contests, live entertainment performances, pre-recorded DVDs and calendars.

They have also applied to protect their names for use in relation to clothing and footwear as well as advertising and marketing services.

Robert Hawley, the partner at Mathys and Squire who acted for the pair, said: “The commercial opportunities for both Anton and Erin are huge at the moment, and not simply related to their skills on the dance floor.

“Erin has quite an eye for clothing design, and I’m sure that ballroom fans would welcome some of her glamour and style on the high street.”
