Lumby takes ambassador role at Yorkshire Bank

WELL-known Yorkshire Bank executive Gary Lumby is to take a part-time ambassadorial role at the organisation as he looks to concentrate on his external business interests.

Mr Lumby, who has worked at Yorkshire Bank for 14 years, most latterly as director of small business for both Yorkshire and Clydesdale banks, told TheBusinessDesk.com he wants to help his wife launch two new businesses.

He also said he wants to look at taking further non-executive roles within the Yorkshire business community.

Mr Lumby is presently vice-chairman of Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership’s board.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Bank said Mr Lumby would be remunerated for his new role at the organisation.

There were differing accounts, however, on the chain of events that has led to Mr Lumby going part-time, with the spokesman claiming Mr Lumby had been offered several positions – which he had turned down – as part of a restructure.

Mr Lumby said he had approached Yorkshire Bank, which is part of National Australia Bank, to discuss a change in role because of his outside business interests.

Mr Lumby quashed speculation that he is set to become the next chief executive of Marketing Leeds and said he wanted to help his wife and daughter launch a beauticians and hair salon respectively in his native North East.

He is also involved in a management consultancy business and a contract painting and decorating company.

Mr Lumby said: “I hold a number of non-executive roles and have my consultancy and I really enjoy that type of work. I really want to do that as part of my own management consultancy.”

Mr Lumby is expected to take up his new role with Yorkshire and Clydesdale banks at the end of this year.
