3volution looks to shake up legal scene

BOUTIQUE law firm 3volution, set up by three partners from a fellow Yorkshire practice, is looking to expand further after taking on a number of new staff members.

3volution has been established by Tim Stone, Jonathan Priestley and Louise Handley.

The Leeds-based firm offers services including banking and corporate, intellectual property, information technology and litigation advice to businesses.

The trio left partner positions at Lee & Priestley to establish 3volution and since its formation in May the firm has made a number of appointments.

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.com, Mr Stone said there was a gap in the market for quality law firms such as 3volution.

Mr Stone said: “There’s a trend that people are saying you’ve got to be big or niche. The risk for us is sitting between the two.

It’s this ‘second-tier’ band, as Mr Stone describes it, that the trio believe is over-saturated in the Leeds and wider Yorkshire marketplace.

“It’s about having enough people around you to make it work,” said Mr stone. “If you have between three and 300 (partners) you lose the ability the manage.

“We’re not making the mistake that a lot of people do in a niche practice of making the niche bigger than you started off with.

“The big advantage we have over the big firms is that people who come to us get the right service.”

Mr Stone, a litigation expert, Mr Priestley, who specialises in corporate work, and IP and IT expert Ms Handley said they had each individually been looking for a fresh challenge and decided to team up to launch the new outfit.

3volution has taken on three fee earners as well as a number of office management staff.

Jonathan Paines has joined 3volution’s corporate and banking department after completing his training contract at Beachcroft.

University of Leeds graduate Jonathan Cole has joined as a solicitor in the firm’s commercial litigation department after completing his training contract at hlw Keeble Hawson.

Mab Moeiri-Farsi also graduated from the University of Leeds and completed his training contract at Herbert Smith. He joined 3volution in September as a solicitor in the intellectual property and commercial department.
