Herriot pub changes hands
A NORTH Yorkshire hotelier has taken over the lease of a pub that was featured in the BBC television series All Creatures Great and Small.
The King’s Arms in Askrigg will be run by Charles Cody, who already owns and operates the 19-bedroom Charles Bathurst Inn in Arkengarthdale and the 11-bedroom Punch Bowl Inn in Swaledale
The property was the Drovers Arms, the local pub of TV vet James Herriot, in the television series that was popular in the 1970s and 1980s.
Mr Cody said: “The opportunity to run one of the most famous Dales TV pubs was too good to miss, and we’re very proud that our track record for great food and service at the CB Inn and the PB Inn is what gave us the chance to expand to our third venue.
“The King’s Arms is a great historic Yorkshire inn with a unique atmosphere. The added heritage of the television series is fantastic, and just adds to its character.”
The addition of the King’s Arms takes the turnover of Mr Cody’s businesses to more than £1.7m, between them employing 60 people.
Mr Cody will be operating the pub on behalf of owner Holiday Property Bond Management.
